Once an hour is ugly, but nothing from midnight to 5 is vastly worse. Having to leave a Merle Haggard concert maybe 1/3 of the way through to make the last train across the Bay sucked big time.
When I lived on the South Side of Chicago, but dating someone in Evanston, it was a long slog home, but at least it could be done--nice nap on the L from Howard to Jackson Park, then a15-20 minute ride on a bus.
