Norm, you're right. Supply and demand. There is a small quantity of tickets available and a potential big demand. So they priced them high. If they priced them too high so that people don't buy then they will either reprice to match demand or eat the tickets. It's a free market system.

If they sold them cheap then everybody would be complaining about the tickets being sold out too quickly.

If UP was running trains like this everyday then the tickets would be cheap. They don't and this is a special move so the tickets got priced accordingly.
