The bridge itself it OK. It's the paving panels which are crumbling, and like was done on the Golden Gate Bridge about 30-40 years ago, they can be replaced, most likely at far lest cost than an entirely new bridge. Given the fiascos with the hold-down bolts on the new eastern portion of of the Bay Bridge and the girders in the Salesforce Transit Center, repaving might be the best option.
