LOL, you're missing the point. The train has been a part of the Portland Zoo for some 50 years. It is an amusement park ride. It is not for commuting. It connects the Zoo with another area attraction, the Rose Garden. Several years ago the west hills experienced several mudslides. The land became unstable under one area and needs to be shored up and stabilized. This was the line over to the Rose Garden. The train still circles the Zoo. Rip up the tracks for what? A 10 million dollar bike path that no one will use? Who the hell takes their bike to the Zoo? And it ain't a short walk. It's a hell of a hike!! You park at the Zoo; walk around the Zoo; [not bike]; Go get back in your car and drive down to the Rose Garden!! OR...Park your car at the Zoo; walk around the Zoo and see the tigers and elephants; pay a small fee to ride the train over to the Rose Garden; walk around and smell the roses; ride the train back to the Zoo; go to your car and go home. And within 5 years, the path will be full of homeless camps just like most of the other trails in the Portland area. The Portland City Council has much bigger problems to worry about than the Zoo train. The Zoo could start a fund raiser to get the train back up and running. Anyone who lives here will tell you that downtown Portland is almost as bad as San Francisco.
