We are (the ones that are left) are fighting to get some compensation for Asbestos.

In 1969, the carriers never said peep when they got rid of cast iron shoes on the engines. They were replaced with a "Cobra" shoe that didn't spin off any iron flakes to go into your eye. Just the haze from the cobra shoes. Turned out that was what it was, ASBESTOS. When you were switching, the TM blowers would blow the dust around under the cab and right into the cab. Some folks have said, ..."But you smoked." That didn't help but didn't do the damage that asbestos.

I now use a CPAP, & am on oxygen, (4 cfm at rest, 5 cfm when walking.) The tests that were done includes my daughters and ex-wife because that is where I would do my laundry and that put this dust in the house. Oh, we also switched Union Carbide at Welby, an asbestos plant.
And Grefco & JM up the hill at Lompoc. They put out DE and it was everywhere.


The carriers are very slow to deal with it, but that's the way they worked. Everybody talking about the big boy, etc, you have to wonder where all that asbestos went.
