Something seems kinda weird about the City right now. A few decades ago streetcar tracks got relaid in Market St. against all odds and Wille Brown had found the money in the Legislature to electrify the #71 bus. Muni planning seriously floated wiring the #38 but everything crapped out.

And their current undergrounding plans seem daffy and out of priority. I would not be surprised if their consultants did not recommend the nutty idea of proceeding underground north with the Central Subway all the way to the Wharf and then circling back south to Lombard St.

Ditto for the idea of tunneling out West Portal - not anywhere close to the importance of Geary. However if I were King of Muni for a day I would decree the Cal Cable extended to Fillmore and track built out 11th St. towards Potrero. Hey what about car tracks on Mission St. as a backup reroute? he he he
