Very few rail passenger experiences can match that of being on an express train, with locals on each outside track, with an opposing express passing at speed. It does happen at times and when one considers the HUGE number of passengers (several thousand) passing each other, the only reaction is a big WOW! Yes indeed, the system does deserve a visit. With a little study, and no time commitments, it's possible to understand the various routes. Rides are always intersting, passengers are a complete cross section of NYC, and the music in some stations is very good. I really like the elevated sections, particulary north from Manhattan and into Astoria. One can almost always find good, cheap food in the immediate vicinity of any station.
