I believe Hutch was just saying no one drew any negative conclusions about the operation of the 2472.
Looking at this in a wider sphere it seems foolish to be so critical of the restoration and operation of a 4-8-8-4 which has never been done before under present circumstances which include an unmovable deadline and a significant change of senior management during the project. The change of direction includes a new Chief Operating Officer who, as we know, is a strong proponent of Precision Scheduled Railroading and all the austerity it represents. Several executives see steam as nothing but a very expensive distraction.
I hope and pray the current tour is a publicity success and that the program remains viable long enough for the restoration to be complete so we can see 4014 handling a suitably long freight train all by itself. Do any of us want the 60-year-old steam program to suddenly be suspended and the three locomotives parked possibly forever?
