How many folks out there have ever heard of Occam's razor?
So exactly how many coaling towers do they have left out there have to load coal and refuel the 3985 or 4014 from?
How many coaling towers did the SP have, or how many on the UP LA Division in recent times?
Can you easily carry an "extra" tender with a bunker full of coal, that can be used en-route?
And then of course, there is also the fact that I was told, back around the early 1990's, by a UP Official I knew, that UP converted 3985 to oil, in order to make refueling a lot easier, probably as a result of their experience in operating the 844, a long way from "home".
