Why does the media do things like this?
BECAUSE IT WORKS.
Don't blame the media for this kind of hype, blame the people. Most respond to it and lap it up, so anyone even halfway saavy in marketing uses it. The public likes superlatives. They like connection. They like hearing that something is a legend, that it is faster, that it is more powerful, etc.
