Interesting stuff. I am sure the advent of cheap, dependable air travel between major pairs of business centers (NY-Chicago, LA-SFO, etc. etc.) put the damper on the fun and games, to the chagrin of the executives. OTOH, it is said that the Cascade retained a business clientele longer than most overnight trains, at least into the mid-60s. Could be that the airlines plying the SEA-PDX-SFO corridor in those days (Alaska, Western, maybe United) had more lucrative routes to concentrate on.
