Super Dome 53 is owned and operated by Railroad Heritage of Midwest America, better known as Friends of the 261. It is part of the train set that is used behind Milwaukee Road steam locomotive 261. Iowa Pacific has nothing to do with the car. The journey encompassed nearly 8000 miles over thirteen days traveling from Chicago to Los Angeles on Amtrak No. 3, Los Angeles to Emeryville on No. 14, Emeryville to Denver on No. 6, back to Emeryville on No. 5, then back to Denver on No. 6 and after a one night layover in Denver, onto Chicago on No. 6. While some segments carried Trains Magazine tour patrons, other legs were provided as special charters for non-Train Magazine related customers.
