You really think putting doodlebugs on a new Richmond-San Rafael bridge is a good idea? Remember what happened to the Key System on the Bay Bridge? And the Key was carrying a lot of passengers - hardly the case with Cloverdale to Richmond doodlebugs. Once the new bridge starts backing up with autos the highway lobby will be screaming to pave those SMART tracks on the bridge.

I suspect that might somewhat been in the back of the mind of Bechtel when they designed BART. The demise of the Key had just happened. You cannot put internal combustion autos in the Bay tube
