scanning old pictures

I recently got an HP 3570c flatbed scanner at a garage sale that has a "transparent materials adapter" in the cover. Can't be really high resolution (maybe 2400) but may be OK for online posting etc. However, it looks like it will only take 35mm negative strips and maybe slides. I recently found some of my really old stuff - 1 5/8 x 2 1/4 negatives and 1 5/8 square slides from 127 roll film. Those obviously won't fit the attachment. I'll probably try them on the glass like paper, but is there a better way?
Amazingly, after about 40 years in cardboard boxes in various garages, the Ektachrome slides aren't completely green yet! Most actually look pretty good.
