Another use of the views is navigation in what may be very unfamiliar and poorly mapped terrain. Some roads into choice photo spots are not on the map that AAA provides, and those that are may be hidden or hard to spot without a landmark. If you look at where you are going before you actually get there the feeling of Deja Vu will surprise you. The possibilities are numerous.
Goldminer makes another valid point and one that fits me perfectly. I live in northern Ca., East Broad Top is one of my favorite places. Several members of FEBT have posted pictures of particular interest that can be opened from the sat photo and they are more current. Going back to see it in person is prohibitively expensive. You may even find yourself in the picture from space. I can zoom in to my address and see my truck parked out front.
