A lot of people talk about the 30 mph curve that Amtrak 501 where Amtrak 501 crashed as if it's the only speed restriction the train faces on its route.

But what about the junction and crossovers at Nisqually just as short distance away? What is the speed through the crossover? 30 to 40 mph?

Seems like the train would need to slow down for the junction whether there is a sharp curve approaching the junction or not. The way the news media focuses on this "dead man's curve" is just so bogus to me.
