What I was referring to was the diesel doing all on its own when something in the DB control circuits gets out of adjustment, like intermittent wheelslip indications, false or otherwise, in which case it doesn't matter how careful the E is (or D in the ANZAC world).

35 years, all of them without slack attacks, and I was one of the "retrainers", as you put it.
