having lived in several cities w/EMU commuter and intercity services, no way would I want more diesels on Caltrain. I had a cab ride on the EMUS from 30th St Philly to NY Penn as an advance section of a Wash DC- NYP train pulled by a GG1. We beat the schedule by 10-15 minutes partially because we decelerated into/accelerated out of curves faster w/ the EMUs. I believe that powered axles are simply more responsive.
