Funny how the New York Times works in their climate change dogma (of course always assumed that man is causing it, never mind history and tree rings) while not a single mention of 1993. Big floods shutting down rivers are nothing new, this is just a bigger series of them similar to 1993.
BNSF & UP have crews furloughed. CSX can handle more Chicago/St. Louis to New Orleans and Mobile traffic. NS still has trackage rights north/south across western TN. And CN probably does have more capacity available. I have not read yet of covered hopper shortages, though it could be tight. The grain and fertilizer can move if the customers are willing to pay the higher price this year.
