You fools addicted to your various "brands" of political "soda pop", do realize that an international murdering terrorist thug like Putin, could be just as likely to have planted the mines on those ships, to day trade oil futures, and help keep prices propped up, in order to maintain "cash flow" to his bankrupt petro-kleptocracy, in the face of falling world gas and oil prices, right? And, our reaction, to distract attention, and fulfill the conspiratorial fantasies of those who can't help from wanting to jump head first into every ungrateful $hithole in the world we can find, with our military and tax dollars, will do what?
Now as to transit taxes, the original topic, before "topic creep", I think that the public is in an increasingly skeptical mood about "more taxes", after a spate of voting for sales tax increases at the local level, but now, some recent notable local sales tax rejections.
I've lived long enough, and have done this kind of work, through periods of overreach by "do gooders" who want to do that purported "good" with my tax dollars, and the reactionary fools who want to destroy evil that "gubmint" so they can't, cycles of the voters moods in my life.
So, given fiasco's like the CAHSRA, and the fact that people haven't seen enough return on what they've so recently voted for, I suspect that continuing sales taxes that are expiring will be easier, than getting more taxes out of the voters wallets, until they start seeing more results. I'm seeing this also, in the reaction to nonsense like the road diets, increasing frustration with congestion, and the still inadequate and often poorly operated transit services.
Voters are consumers, too. If they are happy with the what they see, they might be willing to pay more, to get more of what makes them happy, if not, then they won't. When they see waste and incompetence from mismanaged boondoggles like the CAHSRA, and then drive over a pot hole and blow out a new tire, they won't have much patience left to vote for, nor as much money "left" after the cost of that tire, to pay those new taxes, will they?
