Not sure what high-frequency speakers or the millions of people who post their every breath on social media have to do with this. Most of the CA refugees I've experienced show no distinct signs of law-breakage other than ignoring posted speed limits, making right turns at stop signs and red lights without stopping, and generally adding to our road traffic and suburban sprawl. Traffic and sprawl that are minor by comparison to other places, but huge for this area. (And yes, I escaped here from SoCal in 1984, but had prior dibs due to birth in Montana and toddler years in Spokane.) Honestly though, a great deal of the new folks moving here from CA and elsewhere, people of all backgrounds, are settling in quietly to a lifestyle that's more peaceful and friendly, and less-costly or crime-ridden than where they came from.

As for Hayden Lake, that's one of many enclaves around here for the rich and not-so-famous. Hayden, ID, on the other hand, is the place once associated with an encampment of neo-nutzies who have long since been driven out of here. Google such groups by state or region and you'll find that they're far more prevalent in other places on either coast, the deep South, and parts of the Northeast than they are here.

If I had to point a hasty finger of possible blame for these trail thefts, it might involve a combination of this region's (Portland-Seattle included) growing homeless/low-income/no-income population coupled with meth and other drugs, and the need to produce cash for the purchase of such drugs. Or perhaps to simply pay their bills. Or it very well might be spoiled brat children of lawyers, doctors, or developers who feel they're entitled to whatever piece of property they come across.
