Telltale at Farwell Destroyed

While passing through Niles Canyon for work today, I stopped at Farwell to have a quick look and noticed the telltale was in splinters on either side of the track. Does anybody know what happened? How many telltales are left? A quick Google search yielded no obvious answers.
