Of course it would be faster and more comfortable to take an express GGT bus to the City - this is why they built the blinking Bridge in the first place in 1937. The ferries were killed off straightaway and the connecting trains. Don't get me wrong; the ferries are cool but in honesty you must concede they require extensive maintenance and safety monitoring because they are in the water. And then you have the required manning and conflict with other craft on the Bay and b**ching about the bow wave from the Northbay neighbors.
Not to bring up that electric buses, looking to be available from MCI next year, will be so eco-green, whilst your doodlebugs are fossil and likewise with the ferries.
Meantime SMART, instead of lowering speeds at Golf Course crossing, wants to pad the payroll more with some guards/monitors. SMART's current concept is wrong and does not adapt well to the need for incremental grade separation.
