Fifty seven years is exaggeration; ten years is more realistic, but what is the problem with that? In the 1860's we were all shooting from the hip; riding roughshod over indigenous peoples, slaughtering buffalo herds with no thought of the consequences, mining wherever we wanted and producing tailings that we are still cleaning up today, losing fingers to link and pin couplers and losing our livelihoods, having our labor power exploited by the rich and powerful. You can make the argument that those things were appropriate to the times, but they aren't appropriate today, and I sure as hell don't want to live in that world. The future isn't mining coal, as much as I will miss the coal trains in the Gorge
