Many years ago when the SP changed a lot of operating moves is when it started. After Highway 40 was replaced by I-80 in the 60s, a lot of owners sold out to get the cash to settle down the hill towards Roseville or towards Sparks.

The houses & property sold for a little of nothing compared to SF. The bay area folks had a lot of money compared to Truckee.

Then more money showed up and found its way to the Tahoe City area. Truckee is still there but mostly in memories. Oh, the 64 Olympics helped on the housing start.
