Burlington Northern Train #1007/08 - Late 1980s?

Here's a question for all you Burlington Northern historians. I'm working on captions for my upcoming Montana Rails - Mountains and Prairies book and I have a photo of the eastbound Amtrak Empire Builder at Bison, Montana in 1990. The question is...when I lived at Essex in the late 1980s - BN numbered the Empire Builders as No. 1007 and 1008 [today they are #7 and #8] Would anyone know exactly when the BN changed the numbers from 1007/1008 to #7/8? I just want to have the right caption info for the photo.
