I agree that this the moon landing was a huge event for mankind. But think about it - wouldn't the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad come close to matching it? It was a major feat of engineering, united the western states to the Union and opened up the whole middle of the nation for settlement. Personally I found it sad how the news media gave it barely a mention.
