I was in the U.S. Army, based at Ft. Bragg, N.C. -- but was home with my parent in Durham, N.C., that day.

I set up one of my Nikons on a tripod in front of my parents' TV and shot a number of frames off the TV screen.

Actually, as a journalist, my favorite among the images made that day was not the men on the moon, but Walter Cronkite holding up a special edition of the New York Times with the headline, "Men Land on Moon."

Yes, that was a time when newspapers still sometimes ran special editions of momentous events.
