I was one of the founders of "Save The Blue Goose" committee when the YWRR was up for abandonment in 1999. The purpose of the committee was to collect enough money to buy the railroad and its equipment to keep the Blue Goose going. We found, (at that time) there was not enough local interest or money to realize that endeavor. We did manage to collect around $25,000 though.

It was then the Rocky Mountain Railway and Mining Museum out of Denver purchased the YWRR. So we disbanded the committee and distributed the money to the YWRR, and the Montague Railroad Depot restoration project.

The one thing I do not understand is, there has been absolutely no mention of the YWRR being foreclosed upon in our local news paper. No one seems to know the 19, and the railroad is up for sale. They don't know the main tourist attraction in the northern-most area of Siskiyou County is about to be lost forever!

Talks continue between the shippers coalition and the CORP. It is possible they may reach an agreement soon and service on the Siskiyou line would be restored with, or without a surrogate operator. That would bring Timber Products and Suburban Propane back online with the YWRR. I'm hoping this can be resolved quickly. We may lose the Blue Goose, but maybe the YWRR and the jobs it provides can be saved.
