I agree, Food service is the aspect of rail travel that Amtrak has bungled the worst. Stopping the train to pick up Dominos pizza would be an improvement. A dining car with a REAL kitchen and food the patrons will ask for seconds is the way to go. People still talk about the French toast on the Super Chief. Has anyone raved about the microwaved rubber chicken they had on the Amtrak Zephyr? Perhaps Amtrak modeled their food service on the airlines. BIG mistake. I advise people considering a long rail journey to bring a suitcase full of food. They return , thanking me for the advice.

The fact that Amtrak has gotten this far is remarkable. In comparing our rail passenger system to others around the world we rank very low. There is little or no quest for excellence, Sad.
