> Well there you have it folks! Irrefutable proof. Why just look at these sources: an amateur edited encyclopedia without a link or page given, that one magazine from some time or other, and some guy I once knew down the street that knew someone that took good photos....

OK, Mr. Industrial Snotbag, do you know how to use a search engine? Try googling "Film resolution" and see what you get. All the hits pretty much say the same thing as widipedia, the point being that film resolution is far greater than the CCD devices in your and my price range. Spy satellites are a different story, but the PRICE!

That "friend down the street" was a chemical engineer at Shell Development, and one of his hobbies was making dye transfers in his own basement (you do know what a dye transfer is, don't you?). He once told me (in the 1950s) that light does something, "we don't know what", to silver halide grains which enables a reducing agent, like hydroquinone, to reduce them to metallic silver in proportion to the amount of light which fell on the grains. Several decades later, that digital photography magazine -I forget the name of it- contained an article about research at Eastman Kodak which lead to their then-new T-Max emulsions. The breakthrough was this: the researchers discovered that photons had to excite a group of four silver halide grains minimum before the reducing agent would convert any of them to silver. The shape of these grains also played a part, with a rectangular box like shape being the most efficient.

I have a set of unused E4 chemicals in my basement if you'd like them.
