NOT FAKE NEWS---Over three and a half years ago, with Doyle McCormacks blessing, myself and Scott Inman, President of the SPRTHS embarked on a quest of ttrying to get the #4449 approved to go to Ogden to represent the SP and CP for the recreation of the engines nose to nose. My boss at UP at the time was V.P. of Operatons Cameron Scott in Omaha. We wrote a very good letter on why it was important that this happen citing history as our basis of discussion. Over that time period, we NEVER got any feedback from UP that it would not happen. Privately, my feedback was that it was a good idea but it would take time to be included in the plans. Thats why we started the ball rolling in late 2015. Of course it didn't happen. The idea was NEVER rejected by anyone at UP. In the end, it was the planning of PSR that killed it along with the retirement of Cameron Scott last February at the same time of the big management shake-ups in Omaha. But we did try. Scott talked to his counterparts at UPRTHS who were fully on board and carried the message to their contacts at UP. We havew never told anyone about this because of the sensitivity of the idea. I am sure some folks behind internet names will have their say about this but this effort did happen although NOT successful.
