Paving the right of way was never a viable option due to presence of NWP. Hello!
SMART is busy during commute hours and empty mostly outside of commute period. SMART is a total failure at providing complete and ample commuter trains during the commuter period. This is a total disgrace.
Mansourian says in the article that he doesn't want to mislead the public. And yet misleading the public has been the bread and butter of SMART's marketing and public relations strategy since at least 2011. Until there has been a full airing of the reasons for the commute service gap failure and a straightforward plan on how to fill the gap, SMART should get no new monies and if they can't give us a straight answer on the commuter gap then I say shut down SMART completely. Let the GGRM put the San Rafael branch to good use, building a shop and station complex at Hamilton or inside the wye at Ignacio. Then they can run weekend excursion and wine trains from Larkspur to Petaluma.
One more thing: Debra Fudge of Windsor had the gall to say to that no ever came to San Rafael until SMART started running there. What an idiotic statement. As a penalty for that kind of hate speech, SMART should be shut down the moment the Windsor extension is opened. As a message to the SMART board for their shameful slander of San Rafael and Marin in general.
