The location of Tillamook actually has some very specific economic advantages. One is being on the coast and near a port that could be someday developed and more economical to ship goods too than running them all the way down the Columbia and then the Willamette Rivers. Not necessarily everything, but at least some products. The environment and soil and are also obviously more conducive to some industries than elsewhere and it's a major shipper of wood products due to its proximately to the woods.
