Glad i rode this line in the 70's. About 10 pm you would hear the the Baldwins coming down the hill to Willits with there distinctive horn. The four track Skunk yard was located south of the Willits depot.Grab your pack and your cold beer, get in an empty boxcar with your friends and open both doors wide open for the ride up to Summit in a twenty car train. The engines would run around the train and return to Summit with another 20 cars making a 40 car train to Ft. Bragg.A slow beautiful ride through the redwoods would end east of town where the train stopped to line switches allowing you to get off wave to the caboose as it went by and spend the night at the cemetery east of town around 4 am. I miss those days.
