SMUD is planning to repower several units of its wind farm in the Montezuma Hills near Rio Vista. These will be the big ones, over 500 feet high. They anticipate that the parts will be shipped by rail, then trucked to the site.
Could this be an opportunity for RVJ to make a little money, or at least get the tracks repaired on somebody else's nickel? Fix up the line so the rail delivery could be made at Birds Landing Rd. or Molena. Less trucking. Probably would require taking the wire down while the shipping is done to provide adequate vertical clearance, and it could be interesting ducking under Hwy 12 unless Caltrans built the new overhead (a couple of decades ago) to UP or SP clearance standards.
