BOB2 - I never said you didn't support frequent passenger service. Except for that one sentence you answered my question well.
Your proposed passenger operations are interesting. Running a train over the CORP tracks would make sense here in Oregon. If you look at the population centers in Oregon it is all along the I5/original SP rail alignment corridor. Aside from K-Falls there's almost no-one living along the Cascade Route.
Extending Capitol service to Chico and Redding would also make sense. Right now rail passenger service to Northern California is horrible. It's in the middle of the night. Giving people some mid-day options would be huge.
California, Oregon and Washington should take over AMTRAK operation in their states (at least north-south operations). They have done pretty good with the Capitols, Cascades and San Joaquins. Makes you wonder what they can do jointly for a through service.
