That is correct, i.e. that tankcar did NOT have "shelf couplers". In fact, that was the tankcar which was used for Diesel engine crankcase oil drainings from the host railroad's diesel shop. The tankcar was then moved to the Brooklyn Roundhouse where the used oil was pumped into 4449's tender for fuel. In the photo, the tankcar was brought along in order to refuel 4449 during the operations. There was NO interference with the diaphragm on the "Yes Dear" crew car.
