I've seen the opinion, including here, that the Class Is are supporting PTC, not resisting it, because once it's in, they'll have a good case for eliminating a second worker in the cab of intermodals and other through trains. Over the long term, they may think it's a bargain. One thing that interests me here as well is that in many accidents, like the Cascade derailment near Seattle, commenters have been adamant in saying we can't draw premature conclusions about the cause. But here, commenters have a really firm idea about the cause, no investigation needed! My uncle rose to be CEO of a Class I. He had a particular dislike for railroaders, though he'd worked with them since firing steam on the Lackawanna. Sometimes I can see why.
