That video is even worse than the first one.

The status of the engineer at the time of the incident will never be known. He maintains to this day that the signal at West Kismet went from Approach to Clear as they were just about to knock it down. When you are holding the main, that is not unusual. Then when they got to the east end, the low sun obscured the east signal until it was too late. The fact that he is still working today is a demonstration that there may have been enough doubt in the theory that he simply fell asleep to prevent his termination. The engineer tested clean for drugs and alcohol.

The conductor of that train tested positive for the inactive metabolite, benzoylecgonine, which is not normally associated with impairment. It is a marker for previous cocaine use but there is no way a urine test can determine if there was actual impairment, meaning whether cocaine use contributed to the accident was inconclusive. Unacceptable? Sure. But contributing? Not likely.
