Amtrak 14 of 10/19: 7 hr-30 min delay Emeryville - mechanical

Last night AMTK 14 developed a loco radio transit problem as it departhed Jack London station/ Oakland. Maintenance people decided to meet the train at its next stop only 15 minutes away and swap the radio. After a 45 minutes wait an Amtrak mechanic Met met the waiting #14 and it’s 207 on the nose. Swapped the radio but a tranmit test failed, still growling garbled transmit audio.
Maint forces decided next step was to swap the lead and trailing locos. That task was well done by engineer and conductors. But there was sir brake problem preventing the train from passing a terminal sir Beale test. During the following hours a
maonf forces and road Forman of engines tried to get brakes of both P42-DC to set up and release on unison. No success.
The crew went dead on law and was replaced.
Finally a working pair of GE P-42’s was brought in from Amtrak Oakland shops and swapped into place. Success: trrminal sir brake test passed.
14 arrived at 10:17 PM with AMTK 207 & 31. And departed EMY with replacement locos 24 & 29 at 5:47 AM.

The way railroads swap in and out the radios I bet the cabling is defective in the 207. Why not secure a radio into every loco.
I bet the antenna cable shorted our from rough handling.
I am afraid west Oakland will send 207 back on the road without repairing it.
Amtrak shop may just mark it not able to lead “trail only” and back on the road.
