"K" was an SP designation for trains handling haz mat. For example, if SP were to dispatch one train today from Strang, TX to CR at East St. Louis, it would be "01SRCRK23." A "Y" designated a merchandise train so LAPXY was a Taylor Yard to Phoenix manifest. An "L" was a loaded unit train. FEKAL was the loaded Kaiser ore train, sometimes called the Brown Streak. The symbol was Ferrum to Kaiser but also reminded one of the rust-colored ore.
