I don't know.

Some speculation:
1. The service yard is walking distance from the north end of operating track. It's west of Hwy 101. So far, the firefighters have been able to keep the fire east of 101, at least on the south end of the fire. Also, the closest I've heard of the fire getting near homes on the south end of the fire, is in Windsor, which is a little north of the service yard.

2. As FUD noted, any dmu movement south would have to be at restricted speed.

I think SMART's decision not to try to carry passengers is correct and sensible under current conditions.
