The connector has been "in the works" since the Blue Line opened. The original plans for the "Blue Line" were from LAUPT to Pasadena. The original Nimby group funded by one of our local anti-vaxxer dowager Pasadena princesses to oppose the "killer trolley" was called NO BLAG (Blue Line At Grade). Of course today, the Gold Line goes to Azusa, and was getting a good work out today, with all three car trains these days.
That was a great Huell Howser episode. Catellus was still running the show back then. Today, makes that period at LAUPT look really slow, with some days over well 100,000 folks going in and out, one way or the other, via some mode of transit. The next big project is going to be the run-through, which is finally funded as part of the 28 projects to be completed by the 28 Olympics.
One of the problems MTA has not really had to confront with "independent" "colored" lines, which "letters" can help solve, is when the demand for direct trains running through the connector are "interlined" you can tell if you want an "A" train to Long Beach, or maybe the "B" line to Santa Monica, and get on the right train. And, finally, the "Blue Line" will actually come to Pasadena....
