Up here in the Great Grey Northwest, lotsa perishable export loads in Ocean Reefers, especially through Evergreen Container Lines @ Port of Tacoma. Otherwise, the Ports of Seattle & Tacoma ( aka - NW Seaport Alliance ) are a bit slower than this time last year, at least from the view out my windshield.
Many importers, including my employer, were very busy during the normally slow spring months, as the rush was on to beat the increased Chinese trade tariffs. We have had several warehouses stuffed full of various import goodies since March - more than just the usual Holiday Volumes. The yard at Ikea's distribution warehouse in Spanaway, stuffed full to overflowing with ocean containers in June, is now almost empty. Maybe a bit of post - holiday slowdown, considering the lead time on imported furniture, but still it was noteworthy.
I've heard stories of 3PL Import / Export Companies arranging for Chinese imports to be shipped first to Vietnam, then " Imported " to the U.S. from there, avoiding the tariffs. Curious to know if the increased shipping costs cancel out the increased tariffs ???
