With friends who know diddly about steam yet have gone and seen it, I can say that UP has done it right. There are Youtube videos out there by people who know nothing about railroads but are astounded by the sheer mass and parts.
The "steam purists" or other such people who make complaints make up less than 1% of the population. Most barely fog the mirror anymore. The 4041 is about company relationships with the public and they have done quite well with it.The UP did not do the work for those who will argue about the number of rivets in a marker lamp. They did it for their public and customer relations. How many of those making complaints or snarky comments here or on other forums actually ship anything over the UP?
