This question requires some deep thought.

3985 was a hard-charging, hard working fast and noisy locomotive that never failed to do whatever it was assigned to do. It looked, sounded, and ran as the machine was meant to. And the cherry on the sundae: it was brought back to life by volunteer active and retired UP employees at negligible cost to UP. Probably cost UP less than $30k
to restore, if even that much.

4014 is delicate, slow, quiet, failed on it's break-in trip, is still not complete, is squeaky-clean and unable to move without assistance. It was brought back to life by current employees and contractors at enormous cost in man-hours and overtime. Some figures say as much as $12 million or more.
