Which was another major factor with something like (IIRC?) 80% of the Blue Line (now "A" line), over the first ten years, which had an average blood alcohol of nearly three times the legal limit at time of death....

I was surprised we didn't see very much on that "human" "DUI" factor in grade crossing accidents. As of around, four or five years ago, when I was asked about bike lane safety, in reducing fatalities. Which is making a "comeback" again as a planning 101 "flavor of the week" again, and one of the new "road diet" excuses these days. Even though, there is very little "good" data that supports that thesis. There is data which actually shows that as many as 40% of annual bicycle fatalities, were legally impaired and under the influence, at their time of death. Which is about 60% higher than the rate of annual DUI motor vehicle fatalities...

Maybe quad gates are located in areas of higher DUI rates? Not all correlations are a function of the "cause" of something. Covariance is not causality... Quad gates don't cause the higher rate. They just reflection of the higher rate from other causes....like DUI's.

Statistics 101 is over, I'm making that drink.
