First, are we sure this is the real Mouse...?
Second, Diane is getting old, and well, you know...has been out of touch with reality on these issues for years...
Third, yeah, let's build a new Bay Bridge, to carry 150,000 more cars onto the Peninsula, or into the City... But, at a land and construction cost of a new parking space, as my old colleague Dr. Don Shoup out of UCLA would advise, of upwards of $75,000 per space, don't forget to add in the six to eleven "billion" dollar investment in additional parking for those cars...
While not at all an enemy of the "evil" automobile, or new highways, like the hairshirted nitwits, or the nattering Nimby's, it is these impacts that we often don't count, for schemes like this, but have huge costs and impacts (like the additional traffic on local streets and traffic delay costs) after they get off of this new bridge, that are "backward" bending in terms of exponentially increasing costs.
Which is why a new Dumbarton rail tunnel, or bridge, and more commute and intercity rail connections into and out of the peninsula and City, would be more cost effective in moving "person" trips, rather than "vehicle" trips...
