Alright, let's talk history!
The Holocaust is rightfully held up as the major atrocity of the war. Wikipedia says around 6 million Jews died.
But let's also recognize atrocities against ordinary Germans that no one seems to talk about or even know about. A human life is a human life.
1) After the end of the war, some Czechs violently expelled ordinary Germans from the Sudetenland. These were illegal revenge murders. From Wikipedia: "Several thousand died violently during the expulsion and more died from hunger and illness as a consequence."
2) When the Soviet Red Army advanced westward to Berlin in 1945, they massacred and engaged in ethnic cleansing of the worst kind against ordinary German civilians. Millions of civilians fled west. A passenger ship, the Wilhelm Gustloff, loaded with these fleeing refugees was then sunk in 1945 by a Soviet submarine at sea. From Wikipedia: "By one estimate 9,400 people died, which makes it the largest loss of life in a single ship sinking in history." Today, there is almost no general knowledge or consciousness of that event. Was it a war crime by the Soviets or not? Historians and the Hollywood propaganda machine just want to sweep it under the carpet and ignore it.
So were Jews the only victims of the war? No. Other groups including German civilans were victims too.
